Vata is a force made up of the elements air and ether.  In the body, Vata is movement, and manifests itself in living things as the movement of nerve impulses, air, blood, food, wastes, and thoughts.

Individuals who are predominantly vata are usually thin, wiry, and fast moving.  Their skin will have a tendency to be dry, rough and cool to the touch.  Their appetite is often variable and can skip a meal without any problems.  Their fingers and toes are long and thin with nails that are brittle and crack easily.   Their mind is restless, active, curious, and creative.  Under stress they can become fearful, anxious, and insecure.
